Tired of harvesting by hand? A redstone farm grows and collects crops for you while you go explore. This design uses water flows and pistons to break crops and wash them into a chest — a great first redstone project.

Step-by-Step
1Till a 9×5 field with a water channel
Till dirt into farmland in a 9-by-5 patch. Dig a one-block trench down the middle and fill it with water using your bucket — water reaches up to 4 blocks on each side, keeping crops hydrated.
2Add pistons & a hopper collection
Place pistons facing the crops at one end. Wire redstone dust to a lever so the pistons push and break the crops. Put a hopper at the water outlet flowing into a chest to catch the drops.
3Light it up & plant seeds
Place glowstone (or torches) above the farm so crops grow through the night too. Plant wheat, carrots, or potatoes, then flip the lever whenever they're tall — the farm does the rest.
★ Pro tip: Crops only grow when a player is nearby — build your farm close to your base so it stays 'loaded'.
